VA invites community to thank, visit Veterans

during National Salute to Veteran Patients, Feb. 13 - 19

OMAHA, Neb. — Citizens young and old are encouraged and invited to join the Department of Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System to honor veterans during National Salute to Veteran Patients week, Feb. 13 to 19.

Join the "Visit a Vet for Valentine's Day" program or stop by anytime during National Salute week to visit veterans at a VA health care facility in your area and remind them that their sacrifices are not forgotten. Visit to find a local VA health facility.

A tangible yet simple gesture is joining in the Valentines for Vets program. People are encouraged to buy or create Valentines cards and write a simple note to thank veterans, and then bring them to a local VA health care facility.

Every citizen can make a positive difference in the life of a veteran patient.  Visits from community groups or individuals do much to lift the spirits of our veterans.

Call the Voluntary Service office at the following extensions to schedule a visit and learn how to join the VA’s National Salute to Veteran Patients:  Omaha VA Medical Center, 402-995-3284; Lincoln VA clinic, 402-486-7938; or Grand Island VA clinic, 308-382-3660, ext. 92146.
