NEWS RELEASE: Veterans’ Event Features VA Info, Free Music, Family Fun

OMAHA, Neb. – Information about U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs services and benefits. Music by nine Lincoln-area bands and the patriotic sounds of the Nebraska Army National Guard’s 43rd Army Band. This and more is in store June 15 at the historical VA clinic campus at 600 S. 70th Street, Lincoln, Neb., from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The event is the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System’s Veterans Freedom Music Festival and 43rd Army Band concert.

Veterans and their families are encouraged to stop by one of the many information booths to learn about the vast array of VA benefits. Staff from the VA’s health care system and regional benefits office will be available.  Assistance will also be available from other community resources including veteran service offices, colleges and universities, employment assistance and veteran service organizations.

Lincoln VA’s Veterans Advisory Council hosts the Veterans Freedom Music Festival to celebrate America’s heroes and to recognize their sacrifices. The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony with a full color guard, presentation of the Colors and national anthem. Nine local bands perform throughout the day that include the Kramer Sisters, Salt Creek Symphony, Bolzen Band, Rockerfellers, Oasis Bluegrass, the 21st Street Band, Pinkertones, the Lincoln Ukelele Band and Switchback. The Nebraska Army National Guard’s 43rd Army Band will perform a special concert with music that celebrates America and inspires patriotism.

A special presentation of the Bill Harris Friends of Veterans Award will honor a community member.

The concerts are held outside on the historical Lincoln VA grounds. Veterans and the community are invited to bring their lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the front lawn.

The event features children’s activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food will be available for purchase. Free parking is available onsite. No coolers or alcohol permitted. Service dogs are the only animals allowed.
