VA is also partnering with Walgreens to offer enrolled Veterans greater choices of times and locations to obtain their seasonal flu shots. Veterans can receive their flu shot at any Walgreens that administers them and that is participating in the VA-Walgreens initiative. To obtain their flu shot at Walgreens, enrolled Veterans should tell the pharmacist they receive care at a VA medical facility, and show their VA identification card. After Walgreens administers the vaccine, the immunization record is transmitted to the Veteran’s health record – securely, and within the established requirements of the eHealth Exchange. The type of immunization, date administered and the provider giving it will be part of the Veteran’s electronic health record.

Walgreens accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare. However, if a Veteran normally has a co-pay for receiving the flu shot at a VA medical facility, the same co-pay may be required at Walgreens. To find the closest Walgreens location, visit www.Walgreens.com/storelocator/find.jsp.  To learn more about the VA-Walgreens initiative, visit www.publichealth.va.gov/vaccines.asp.
