Veterans Affairs Partners with Community Agencies
to Offer Veterans, VA Staff Free Tax Assistance

OMAHA, Neb., — Internal Revenue Service-certified volunteers offer Veterans and Department of Veterans Affairs employees free tax assistance for 2012 federal and Nebraska tax returns at the VA health care facilities in Lincoln and Grand Island, Neb.

Volunteers are not certified to prepare complicated or business tax returns.

Lincoln Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition volunteers will assist Veterans and VA employees with their tax returns from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 8, March 8 and April 12 in the Pioneer Room at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, Lincoln Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, 600 S. 70th St.

Central Nebraska Community Services volunteers will assist Veterans and VA employees with their tax returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 13 and April 10 at the VA NWIHCS, Grand Island CBOC, 2201 N. Broadwell Ave.

No appointments are necessary. Clients are served on a first-come, first-served basis.

You must bring a photo identification card (e.g., military, student, VA identification cards or state driver’s license). If it is a joint tax return, both individuals must bring photo identification. You also need your Social Security card, and any supporting tax documents including pension statements, W-2 forms, child care payment information, and checking or savings account numbers for direct deposits if you have an anticipated refund. A copy of the individual’s 2011 tax return is helpful, but not required.

The consultants are also available to answer questions about current or past personal tax return issues.

For more information about the Lincoln event, contact Jana at 402-489-3802, ext. 96804. For more information about the Grand Island event, contact Lisa at 308-382-3660, ext. 92145.
