Veterans Affairs Appoints New Associate Director for Ops

OMAHA, Neb., — Denise M. Harrison was appointed as Associate Director for Operations for the Department of Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System February 10, 2013.

Prior to this appointment, Harrison served as the senior management analyst for the health care system. In this role, she was a leader in transforming the health care system into a data-driven organization by establishing a data analytics unit. Her efforts resulted in a nationally recognized data analytics program being established within the Veterans Health Administration, where she has also provided consultation throughout the country.

Her work within the VA includes progressively complex responsibilities that began in 1984 with duties that included staff nurse on an inpatient medicine unit at the former Lincoln, Neb., VA medical center and manager of ambulatory care services. Harrison served as the operations manager for the Lincoln site after it became a community-based outpatient clinic in the late 1990s.

Harrison has a Master of Science Degree with a focus in Administration from Andrews University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Harrison is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.
