NEWS RELEASE: Free Tax Assistance for Veterans at Lincoln Veterans Affairs

OMAHA, Neb., – Certified tax preparers will provide Veterans free assistance with simple 2013 income tax return preparation at the Department of Veterans Affairs health care clinic, 600 S. 70th St, Lincoln, Neb.

The Lincoln Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition hosts the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the VA auditorium on Feb. 14, March 14 and April 11.

The consultants are trained and certified to assist with simple 2013 federal and Nebraska income tax returns. The volunteers are not certified to prepare complicated or business returns.

No appointments are required.

Mandatory items required include: Social Security cards for each person whose return is being filed (including dependent children), photo identification and checking and savings account numbers and routing numbers.

If applicable, other items required may include pension statements, child care information, a copy of the 2012 income tax returns, statements from qualified colleges that provide the expenses and/or credits and an IRS Form 1098T, W-2s from any employment and other necessary forms from 2013.
